Accenting dialogue actions

- [Instructor] When animating dialogue, the first thing for the traditional animator does is graph the accents. And we're not talking about regional accents. We're talking about the stress in the line of dialogue. In this example, we're looking at a simple, two-syllable word, cooo-ee, as somebody is waving goodbye to a friend. Cooo-ee! Cooo-ee! Cooo-ee! Cooo-ee! When you listen to a sample enough, it'll become like music to you. You'll begin to pick out the inflection and the stresses, and this will allow you to graph the accent. Once I have the accent graphed, I thumbnail the poses with the character usually corresponding to the accents. So if the accent is descending, the character will normally do so physically. And if the voice is rising, so should the character. It would look very strange if you did it the other way around. Cooo-ee! Cooo-ee! Cooo-ee! Cooo-ee! Now, let's look at the same line of…
