- [Instructor] I have an entire course in the library called Animating in 2D: Hair and Clothing if you want to go into this in more detail. Primary action is usually movement created by the character whereas secondary action is caused by the primary. So the primary leads and the secondary follows. In this case, the primary action is the ball. The secondary action is the cloth tied to the top of the ball. But most of the time, your primary action will be a living person. In this case, the head in red is primary and the hat in blue is secondary. But take note of the feather attached to the hat in yellow is reacting to the secondary animation of the hat. So we could think of the feather as tertiary action or third. So to animate this scene, first you have to animate the primary object, the head, then the secondary object, the hat, and finally the tertiary object, the feather.
