- [Instructor] Effects animation is its own kind of field. And we used to have effects specialists when we were drawing this by hand, and some studios will still have them. So the main thing is, and it's kind of off-putting if you've been trained to do character animation. Effects aren't solid, they're amorphous. They're made of steam, or flame, or liquid. And they don't quite move in the kind of solid way the characters do. So, whenever I did effects animation when I was younger, I always felt, like, a little intimidated by it. And it's like a different mindset, really. But there are some rules you can follow that might help you to become a bit more comfortable with it. I really enjoyed animating this candle flame. And all of the glow that you see was done in aftereffects, it was animated in Photoshop, frame by frame.
