Artists' work examples

- [Andy Needham] Cinema 4D has a very large community of talented users. Like any software, C4D is just a tool and it's when you put that tool in the hands of an artist, you find out how truly great it is. I wanted to share some examples of artist's work to help you visualize what you can create with this awesome software. Every artist here uses C4D but in different ways, so let's check them out. So, this is my site. I'm a motions graphic designer based in London and we've just been looking at a project that I worked on for Google with a studio called Nearly Normal. Just scrolling down the page here and you can see, if we get to the bottom, the C4D wireframe of the mountain scene that I modeled and you can see it up here where it's been composited. And this was a project where we just blended live action stop motion with the models created in Cinema 4D. So, you can come back and check out some other projects I've been working on. And now we're going to move on to another artist. This is John Robson's site. He is a fantastic motion designer and director. And let's just click onto a recent project he worked on. This is for the Xbox One X launch, working with the fantastic Blind and you can see how they've composited the graphics with live action elements. And if I just skip through a bit further on, you can see these lovely particle effects. And this is a common theme throughout the promo, where all these particles are forming different game assets. Just think it's a really, really lovely piece. This is Mark Potocnik's site aka renderbarron. He has some great visualizations like you see here. I've seen him break down this project and a lot of work went into recreating Manhattan. He has some great renders and they're a bit more architecture visualization but as you can see here, there's some motion design as well. So, we've already seen C4D being used in a different way. This is Josh Johnson's site. I've always been a fan of Josh's work. He's a VFX 3D Generalist and supervisor and he uses Cinema 4D heavily in his VFX workflow. You can see, this is a great reel that breaks down the projects at various stages and you can see how much work goes in and all the processes involved. So, this is great stuff. Josh is pioneering C4D for VFX use. Like I said, not really known for that, so I think what Josh is doing is absolutely fantastic. Joel Dubin aka Joelatron uses C4D for medical animation and MadMicrobe is his website and studio. And if we just look at the reel that they have here or this sort of design, a kind of title sequence. It's really, really cool. Absolutely fascinating stuff as well and I think the renders look beautiful. You can really see the variety that we've already been through. You know, of different users using Cinema 4D to create different results. A studio you may be aware of and if you're not, you should be, this is ManvsMachine. Initially based in London, where I'm from, they've recently open a studio in Los Angeles. They do a lot of work for the likes of Nike and various car commercials and things like that. They even put together a piece for Maxon for the release of Cinema 4D Release 18. But I want to focus on this project here for Campbell's and just because it's so colorful. It just looks amazing. If we just press play, you can see they have this lovely render which does take, you know, it's kind of these sort of mography motion design elements. But it just looks so good, you know? What's great about this is we can scroll down, we can see some stills, we can come down further, and we can see a bit of the process. Bit of the wireframe, some different looking renders as well and you know, everything looks good enough to eat which I guess is the point. So, come back and check out some more of their work because it's very, very inspirational. They have a really great core team of artists onboard. I'm always looking to them for inspirations. They are a fantastic studio. Finally, I just wanted to draw your attention to Vimeo. It's a platform for hosting videos, but you can also come in and search for groups as well. So, if you search for C4D group or Cinema 4D group, you can have a look at all these results here. And if we just click into one, you can see this one's a bit more sort of mography. And you can just come into these different groups and see various videos and gather inspiration. So, I invite you to come and check these out. If we just come back here to the main group page, there's different ones that you can jump in to. And hopefully, you're inspired by what you see. I really hope you are. And we'll spend the rest of this chapter understanding the core concepts of using Cinema 4D followed by a tour of the interface before taking a look at some useful preferences and project settings. So, let's move on.
