- [Instructor] When animating clothes, it's a good habit to have some idea of the material that the clothes are made of, and this is going to affect how you design it and how you animate it. Now for most purposes, it's okay to have a rough idea. If it's a really thick material, like a heavy cashmere coat, or if it's something medium like some polyester business suit, or it's really light like silk. So you have various families of materials, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. So in the figure on the left, the cape is clearly very light, and as a result, you can see it forming into lots of thin folds, whereas the one on the right is much thicker, maybe it's heavy wool or, something not so flexible, and so it has fewer folds. So if you look at the lower part of the illustration, you'll see that in any given gust of wind of equal strength, the lighter, more thin material is going to move further, it's more prone to be caught by the wind, it's going to move up faster, faster to…
