Cheating depth with color and tone
- [Presenter] In this movie, we're going to look at air or in this example the lack of air. If you were on the moon, there's no air which means that objects on the horizon look just as crisp as something right beneath your feet. And this obviously could create problems because you can't tell differences between distance very easily. So fortunately on the earth we have an atmosphere and in this case I have six imaginary objects, they're all the same tonal value in the same color, moving away into depth. And if we add our atmosphere what will happen is the air scatters the light. So it's going to make the object look a lot lighter in the distance was more air breaking up the light from the object. Colors also respond to this by being de-saturated. So the further away an object is from you, it'll tend to be less intense in color.
