Counterpose in action

- [Instructor] The one time you're sure to encounter counterpose is when you're animating walks and runs. The hips and shoulders move opposite one another throughout the cycle. If the left hip is forward and low, the left shoulder is back and high. Torque or counterpose can be applied to very simple items. Objects that don't even have anatomical hips and shoulders like this coffee mug, just imagine that it does. This will affect how you draw it and how you animate it. Even brooms can be treated as though they have hips. I believe this has been done before in animation somewhere. You've seen this scene already a few times, and here now is the counterpose that was used throughout this animation. The more dynamic a pose is, the more counterpose you're probably going to have in it. So the more energy that you have in a scene will demand greater twisting of the body, of the anatomy.
