Counterpose when standing

- [Instructor] Counterpose, or torque, is the practice of rotating the hips and shoulders. This creates very dynamic poses that have a real sense of motion to them. The practice was widely used by Renaissance artists like Michelangelo to create these really amazing poses that have a lot of energy, and power, and force to them. From the sublime to the ridiculous, I (laughing) used as principal even with my flour sacks. Counterpose is a great technique to break you out of a zeropose, these boring standing poses that we begin a lot of scenes in. And, even with small changes to the hip orientations, you can completely escape from the trap of these really dull-looking poses. On the top row, you can see the alo-chee poses, on the bottom row I've superimposed the hips and the shoulders so you can see the amount of counterpose in each one.
