Introduction to anticipation

- [Instructor] Now we're going to take a look at anticipation, overshoot and settle, one of the most powerful techniques that you can use in animation to really bring it to life. So let's say we have a figure standing here on the left and we want him to point to the right side of the screen. We could in between straight from one into the other, the only problem with that would be it would be kind of boring. So the solution is to use some sort of variation of the anticipation, overshoot and settle method, and in this case we move in anticipation to the action by going generally in the opposite direction of where we're heading. In this case I've just moved the character into a down position, but we could also move him slightly backwards, which we're doing here, just a little bit. He's leaning back on his physical right foot and then he overshoots past the final resting position before settling into that.
