Leading gestures
- [Instructor] A leading action is a point in a scene where one part of the character seems to propel or dominate the movement. Here, the elbow briefly leads into the point, so the elbow leads the action. And this creates a nice anatomical snap to the point. In the robot scene, I led out of the anticipation with the chest and head on 22 through 29. I wanted this scene with an Igor-type character to feel a little bit sinister, so I led with the top of his shoulder on frames seven through 15, before letting the elbow take over on 21 through 23, and then you see he finally settles into his end pose. And I also allowed enough in-betweens to ease into and out of the leading actions on frame 15 so that those pose would read very strongly, and that gives him that sneaky quality.
