Managing XGen file assets
- [Instructor] The Xgen geometry instance or workflow relies on external files. The Xgen data is not actually stored in the Maya scene, but in linked files within the Maya project folder. I've got that open here in windows Explorer and the current project exercise files in the sub folder scenes. And here's the current scene I have open, 03 09 Xgen assets dot MA. And right next to it is a file 03 09 Xgen assets grass custom collection dot Xgen. The dot Xgen file stores a collection, which includes one or more Xgen descriptions. Remember that a description is a set of parameters to define Xgen geometry. The file name here is derived from the name of the scene, and the name of the collection within the scene. Every time we save a scene that has an Xgen component, Maya will save a new dot Xgen file with a name that corresponds to the scene file name.
