Modeling a planar backdrop matte painting

- [Instructor] For a matte painting or a plainer backdrop, I recommend using a plain primitive. Maya has a feature called a free image plane that could be used for this purpose but I recommend a plane primitive for maximum compatibility with all rendezvous and viewpoints. Let's create a plane primitive. Create polygon primitives plane in the channel box we'll rename it, matte painting one. We want to set the dimensions of this matte painting to be proportional to the aspect ratio of the texture to be applied onto it. I've already checked that my image has an aspect ratio of 4:1. It's four times wider than it is tall. We want to use proportional values for the width and height of the plane. Go into the input nodes just like the poly plane input node and we'll set the width to 1000 centimeters remembering that since our layout is a one 100th scale model, it's effectively 1000 meters in width.
