Modeling a skybox
- [Instructor] In previous movies, we saw how to render out images for a cubic environment map, and apply those as a Skybox in a game engine. Now we're going to reproduce that in Maya, because the Skybox has the same advantages in Maya as it does in a game engine, namely, the cubic environment map is much more efficient than a spiritual or latlong projection. You'll get essentially double the quality at the same resolution. And of course additionally, a Skybox or cubic environment map is much easier to edit. You can bring those images into a program such as Photoshop and manipulate them much more easily than you could in echo rectangular or spherical projection. But in Maya, the process of setting up a Skybox is not automated and will need to go through a kind of complicated process in order to get it right.
