Opposing action: Intermediate

- [Instructor] In the previous movie, I showed you the basic principle of opposing action, and here I want to walk you through some examples of how you would begin to apply that in more common scenarios. Here we have a seagull doing its flying cycle. The one problem with the scene is there's no opposing action, the wings are simply moving up and down, and that's it. If we add opposing actions, suddenly, we get a lot of interesting things happening. Now, the body is moving up and down to oppose the action of the wings, and as a result of that too, we're adding little overlapping actions on the tail, the feet, and the beak. Now that's beyond the course of this movie, but you get the basic idea. Once we begin to initiate the opposing action, many other things begin to follow, and suddenly we go from a very static, boring animation into a really interesting one. Here's a really nice example.
