Setting terrain level of detail

- [Instructor] In this chapter on terrain modeling I want to start by talking about level of detail. LOD is very important and kind of tricky for terrains because it's very easy to overload the system with way too many polygons. So I'm going to show you a method whereby you can constrain the detail in the center of a polygon plane by adding divisions. We'll start by creating a polygon plane for our terrain Create, Polygon Primitives, Plane and in the channel box go to its input node, for a terrain five kilometers on a side I want the length and width to be 5,000 units if my scene convention is one one-hundredth scale I'll set the width and height to 5,000 centimeters remembering that for one one-hundredth scale model we're considering that to be 5,000 meters on a side. For the subdivisions we want to increase this enough to give us a good level of detail but then the question becomes, what is good? Let's try it…
