Timing vs. spacing

- [Instructor] Timing and spacing are often confused with one another. They're actually different things. So let's take a look at them, an the differences between them, as well as using easing to cushion our actions. Timing is the frame number that we assign to our keys. In this case, the ball travels across the screen in nine frames, or about one third of a second. Traditionally, hand drawn animation, the timing and the spacing were controlled by timing charts written on each key drawing. This is still the way in hand drawn projects. Now, I've oriented the timing charts from vertical to horizontal in this slide for clarity. Usually you'll see them on the the top right of the page from top to bottom. Spacing is the position of the in betweens between the keys. There are any number of ways we can space them, from smooth railroad tracks, ease in or ease out, we can ease in or ease out on a different pattern here on thirds.…
