What makes a good starting photo?

- [Instructor] Bitmap2Material, an application developed by the team at Allegorithmic, lets artists use an input image such as a photograph to create a whole bunch of control maps for a material. So base color, roughness, metalness, and so on. There are a few similar programs on the market, and so if you use or would prefer to use one of those, don't worry, as the principles that we will cover here are exactly the same for each of them, and so can be applied in those applications as well. Now whilst there are lots of controls and parameters that can be used in Bitmap2Material 3 in order to try and make our input image as usable as possible, it does have to be said that starting with a good photo at the beginning can save us both time and effort when it comes to creating a good looking material. And so what we want to do here is cover a few quick tips that can hopefully help us do just that. Firstly then, where at all possible, we will want to avoid having any kind of direct light…
