- [Instructor] Another way to smooth objects is to use what are called subdivision surfaces. Now this is built into Maya and it works on any polygonal object. So, here I have my coffee cup and it's rather chunky but we can smooth it very simply by selecting it and hitting the number three on the keyboard. And notice how that smooths out very nicely. If I hit the number one, it goes back to normal. Now in between, those is the number two. And when I hit that, you can see what's happening. We have this wire frame cage that shows the original model and inside of that is the smoothed surface. So this is the smooth surface, the original model, and this is basically both of those. Now we can control our subdivision very easily through the attribute editor. So if I go into the attribute editor and keep my coffee cup selected, you'll see under the shape note, coffee cup shape, we have smooth mesh. So if I roll that out, you can…
