Printing with a PolyJet printer

3D printing with a PolyJet printer is similar to an FDM-style printer because it builds the part in layers, like almost all 3D printing processes do. However, instead of hot plastic filament, the PolyJet machine uses an inkjet-style printhead and prints out a thin layer of resin that is immediately cured by a UV light. Once each layer is printed, the build platform moves down one layer and the process is repeated layer after layer, until the part is complete. Because of the very thin layers on the PolyJet process, this generally takes longer than the FDM process. However, it can produce parts that are much finer detail and have much smaller features. Taking a close look at the final part, we can see the fine layers of detail in this part here. This is a PolyJet part, and you can see there's almost no build lines that you would see in a comparison against what you'd see in a FDM-style print you can see here. It's the same exact part.
