Understanding 3D scanning

In this chapter we're visiting 3D Infotech in Irvine, California. We're going to be using their feral arm scanner here and it has both the laser scanning capability as well as a touch probe. And you can see as we start scanning an item behind me on the screen is going to be a the scan data will actually pop up on the screen showing exactly the data we've collected. We are going to be using the GoPro Hero camera as our scanning item, and I am going to come over here and scan this all around to pick all the details of where the buttons are or where the lens is. There is little ports here, and all that's going to be within a few thousands of an inch of the real part. So, it's going to be part to be able, be able to do some type of reverse engineering of this part inside a computer. We also have the part we've already created inside of SolidWorks.
