Understanding how a computer-numerical-control (CNC) mill is set up

To set up a CNC Mill, we have several steps to complete. The first thing we need to do is to load the correct tools into the machine, and then touch off those tools so the machine itself knows exactly how long each one of the tools is. As you can see here, what I have is my first tool loaded, and I've put in a touch off block into the machine, which is going to allow me to bring that tool down to the top of that block. And it has a little gauge in it, and it's going to spin around and tell me, right when I'm at the zero point. So I'm going to let that tool come directly down to the top. And you should see the gauge spin around a little bit. And as soon as you get back up to the zero point, I can save that value into the machine and now it knows exactly how long that tool is. I'll be needing to do exactly the same things for all the other tools I'm going to be loading into the machine. So if I'm loading one tool, if I'm loading 20 tools, this procedure is going to be the same. I am…
