Adding DOF using a Z-Depth pass
- [Instructor] One of the things that we may decide our render needs as we take a look at it now is a depth of field effect in order to help separate the main doll from both her companions and the backdrop. Now, we have already seen how we can use the V-Ray physical camera to create such an effect inside Max, as an animated sequence would be a costly mistake to have made in terms of available time at this point in the project. that we deliberately decided to handle such effects in post-production simply because of the speed and flexibility that this approach gives. In either case, what we're going to take a look at in this exercise is how we can easily add a depth of field effect now so long as we have a zed or Z-depth render element from V-ray with which to work, that is. Back in 3ds Max then, let's make sure that our timeline is set at frame 170. And then after opening up the render set of dialog, jump into the render elements tab and click the Add button.
