Choosing display units and grid options
- [Instructor] Before you begin modeling anything, you want to set up the 3ds max units and grid display appropriately. You can imagine that 3ds Max is a little miniature world inside the computer, and that world has a size. It has a scale of its own. And if you obey the rules of that world, then you will have far fewer issues. In other words, you want to model all of your objects to, quote and quote, real world scale. If we're going to model a toy drone, then we want that to be on the scale of 10s of centimeters and not 10s of kilometers. And again, if you follow these rules, then you will have far fewer issues. All of your scenes will be compatible with all your other scenes. You won't have problems with photometric lighting and so on. So first we want to choose a scale convention.
