Choosing a renderer
- [Instructor] Before you begin working with materials you'll need to decide on a renderer. A renderer is, of course, a program module that exports images out to disc and the renderer determines in large measure what options you have for materials and shading. So let's investigate. We need to open up the render setup dialogue from the main toolbar. It's a teapot with a little gear on it. And in this window we can choose the renderer and there are two targets that we want to look at today, production rendering mode and active shade mode. Production rendering mode is the mode when you're doing offline rendering, in other words you're filing outputting frames to disc and the production rendering mode is tied to the material editor. If we scroll down in this common tab to the very bottom there's a roll out label, Assigned Renderer. Open that up and we see production is set to Scanline Renderer by default and material editor is also set to Scanline Renderer and it's grayed out because this…
