- [Tutor] Although there have been ways of creating clear coat and sheen effects for V-Ray materials in 3D's Max for quite some time now, none have ever been quite as straightforward to use nor dare I say, as effective in their final results as the new coat and sheen layers that have been added to the V-Ray materials basic parameters. To demonstrate how these work, let's first of all open up the material editor and then in the shade of our tab, click to pull up the material parameters. Now probably the first thing that we should understand before playing around with the coat parameter here is what it has been designed to be used for. Well, some good real world usage examples could range from the hard surface of the clear coat layer in a car or vehicle paint finish and go all the way up to the more organic example of the sheen or oil layer that can be found on the surface of human skin.
