Composing with the rule of thirds

- [Instructor] Now when you place your cameras in the scene you'll want to make sure that your compositions are interesting. Now one way to do this is to simply use what's called the Rule of Thirds. Now you may be familiar with this but basically it just divides the screen horizontally and vertically into thirds and by doing that you can align the images to points that are visually interesting. Now in order to do this is 3DS Max, it's a good idea to set up your viewport so that we have a Rule of Thirds grid. So let's take a look at how to do that. So I'm going to select this viewport here, Camera Main00 and then let's just go into Configure Viewports. Now under Safe Frames we typically have Action, Title, and User Safe and these are 10, 20, and 30% of the screen and if I were to apply those you could see we'd just get these concentric rectangles, but typically we don't really need Title and User Safe.
