- [Instructor] Let's begin with the prerequisites for the course. You'll need 3ds Max 2018 or later, because 2018 is the first version for which an Arnold plug-in is available. I created the course and its exercise files using the MaxToA Arnold plug-in version 3.2.57. As I explained in a previous movie, you'll want to keep MaxToA up-to-date, because new versions are released very frequently. You'll need a graphics work station that is up to the task of 3D rendering. That means your computer needs to be fast, and have a lot of memory. Don't bother with a computer that's more than five years old or has less than 16 gigabytes of RAM. At this time, Arnold is primarily a CPU renderer, meaning that it renders using the computer's central processing unit. All of Arnold's many features are fully supported for CPU rendering.
