Creating photometric lights
- Chapter 13 will cover the basics of lighting in 3dsMax. And specifically, we're going to look at photometric lighting. That's lighting that mimics the behavior of real world illumination. So for example, if you're doing an interior like this one, you can just plug in the values of a particular light instrument or light fixture, and expect that the rendering that you recieve will look more or less like it would in the real world. That's the purpose of photometric lighting. 3dsMax also has so called standard lighting which is not physically based, and it's not really used that much anymore. It's not the default type of lighting. We're really just going to cover photometric lighting because it actually gives us a lot more power and control and we'll end up with more believable renderings if we use photometric lighting. Lights, of course, are going to be created from the create panel. We'll go to the create panel, and there's a category for lights. You'll see we've got a pull down list…
