Creating a translucency effect

- One of the things that you will quickly come to realize when working with V-Ray and 3ds Max is that there are typically lots of ways in which a desired end result can be achieved with a simple translucency effect on a material So we could for instance, as I have done in previous versions of this course, create a quick and easy translucency fake using the V-Ray 2-sided material. We could also use a V-RayfastSSS2 material working with it's numerous and powerful controls to create a genuine subsurface scattering effect with the same being true of the newer V-RayALSurface material as well. Indeed we could even use the translucency controls on the standard V-Ray material, although getting these to work and work well can often times be a bit of a hit and miss affair in my experience. Because of the relative complexity of all of these options however, I am instead going to show how mixing supported native 3ds Max tools into our workflows can often times bring about a best of both worlds…
