- [Instructor] Like many 3D programs, 3ds Max has a user interface that is a bit complex and perhaps a bit busy. In fact, a friend of mine once, looking over my shoulder, commented that it looked like the dashboard of a space shuttle. Let's look at the user interface elements and also learn how to customize it a little bit in order to simplify the user interface in order to make it easier to use and learn. At the top, of course, we have the main menu. And there are many items within these menus, but one thing that makes 3ds Max a little bit different from other programs, such as Maya, is that there is less reliance upon that main menu. There are many commands and tools that aren't found in the main menu, and those are usually found either on the main toolbar here, which is directly below the main menu, or in the command panel, which is over here on the right side of the interface.
