Gamma and unit settings

- [Instructor] Another set of warning dialogues that we can run into in Max come in the form of the gamma and unit mismatch warnings with the gamma dialog being 3ds Max's way of telling us that the gamma settings saved inside the scene file being opened are different to those currently at work inside the application itself. To make certain that what we see in 3ds Max as we work with the provided scene files matches the visual presentation found in the course videos which have been created using 3ds Max's default gamma options, all we need do each and every time we encounter this is select the adopt the file's gamma and LUT settings option and all should be well. If we accidentally select the wrong option, no need to panic as switching the gamma setting inside Max is a straightforward process. All we need do is come to the customize menu, select the preferences option, and then in the gamma and LUT tab of the dialog, set gamma to be enabled, make sure that the gamma value is set at 2.2 and ensure that both boxes in the materials and color section are checked. The other potential error that we noted in the intro is connected to our system and display unit setup. Now, as a general rule, we typically put together our scenes to scale using the metric system. But if 3ds Max is set up to use its unit defaults, then we will run into this error as we open up the provided scene files. The fix again is simple in that all we need do is choose the adopt the file's unit scale option. Now, unlike the gamma dialog, the consequences of making the wrong choice here can be a bit more significant in that choosing the rescale objects option can oftentimes lead to some fairly serious scene scaling anomalies. So, do be careful whenever you encounter this particular warning
