Gamma and units setup

- If you are working with your copy of 3DS Max settle pin on non-default way. Then it is possible that you could encounter this gamma mismatch warning, as you work with the provided scene files for the course. The dialogue, simply being Max's way of telling us that the gamma settings saved inside the file, are different to those currently at work inside the application. To make certain that what you see inside your copy of 3DS Max, as you work matches the visual presentation found in these videos, which have all been created using 3DS Max's default gamma options. All you need do each time you encounter this dialogue is select the, Adopt The Files Gamma, unlock the settings option, and all will be well. If you should accidentally select the wrong option, no need to panic. As switching the gamma settings inside Max is a straightforward process. All we do, is come to the Customize menu, select the Preferences option, and then in the gamma and locked tab of the dialog set gamma to be enabled, make sure the gamma value is set at 2.2 and then ensure that both boxes in the materials and color section are checked. Another warning that we could run into is one connected to our unit setup. As a general rule, our scenes are modeled to scale using the metric system. Typically, centimeters. If you have 3DS Max setup, to use its units default though, you will run into this error as you open the provided scene files. The fix again is simple, in that all we need to do is choose the Adopt The Files unit scale option and everything should proceed as you see in the video. Unlike the gamma option however, the consequences of making the wrong choice here can be a bit more significant given that choosing the rescale objects option could oftentimes lead to some fairly serious scene anomalies that I would strongly recommend you try avoid running into.
