- [Instructor] Whilst it is possible to create a functional-looking hair or fur texture using just the standard V-Ray material controls in 3ds Max, we do need to recognize that there are a number of inherent problems that we run into when trying to take that particular approach, if we're looking to create a realistic-looking hair material, that is. For instance, how do we account for the unusual specular properties seen in hair and fur using just the V-Ray material? How do we also deal with diffuse coloration on the geometry, given that both hair and fur are extremely transmissive in nature and yet still have lots of obvious color in them? Indeed, how do we set up a V-Ray material for hair that can handle full-on GI in a scene without bringing our computer to a crawl?
