Hiding the ViewCube

- [Teacher] To begin the chapter on viewport tips and tricks, I'd like to begin by hiding the ViewCube. That's this user interface element we see displayed in the upper right corner of all four views on my screen currently. It's kind of an unnecessary and distracting feature. Viewport navigation is more efficiently performed with the keyboard and mouse shortcuts. Just to refresh your memory, middle mouse click and drag and you'll track or also known as pan in the viewport. This is positioning the camera left to right and up and down. ALT and middle mouse is orbit also known as arc rotate. And CTRL ALT and middle mouse will let you dolly forward and back in the viewport. So let's turn off the ViewCube because we don't really need it, and it might get in the way. If you go into the Views menu up here, you'll see an entry for ViewCube, and we have the ability to disable the ViewCube from the menus. However, unfortunately when I restart 3ds Max, the ViewCube will come back. We actually have to go through a different menu to turn it off permanently. In fact, I'll go back into Views and turn it on here. And instead go into the viewport configuration dialogue. In any viewport menu, click on the plus sign and choose Configure Viewports. Go to the ViewCube tab, and disable Show the ViewCube. Click OK to close the dialogue. And now the next time I start 3ds Max, the ViewCube will be hidden.
