Improving viewport performance with the Substitute modifier

- [Instructor] Last week, we saw how to use the MultiRes modifier in order to knock down the level of detail of a polygon mesh. And this week, we'll use the decimated model as a proxy, or a substitute object, using the Substitute modifier. And that will allow us to achieve performance gains in the Viewport without sacrificing any level of detail in a final rendering. I've got two version of a tree, here. This is the high-resolution, or high level of detail version. If we go to its Modify panel, it's an Editable Poly object. And here's the version that I created last week using the MultiRes modifier. And I've knocked that down to only 400 vertices. Let's take a look at our vertex count using the scene statistics. I'll enable statistics from the keyboard shortcut, which is 7. And we're seeing the total scene statistics. Let's also enable statistics for the current selection. Go into the Viewport Configuration…
