Introducing Arnold

- [Instructor] Let's get acquainted with our new friend Arnold. Arnold is the built-in high-end production renderer in 3ds Max. The old scanline renderer is still available, but it's considered a legacy feature. It is no longer being developed, and it certainly doesn't have any of the advanced capabilities of a physically-based renderer such as Arnold. In 3ds Max 2017 and earlier, the high-end production renderer was NVIDIA Mental Ray. Arnold can be considered a replacement for Mental Ray, but it goes beyond that. Arnold is really an upgrade. It was designed from the beginning as a physically-based renderer that produced superior results with a minimum of setup time. Arnold was developed by a Spanish company called Solid Angle, and Solid Angle was acquired by Autodesk in 2016. The original market for Arnold was motion picture production, but now since Arnold is the high-end renderer in 3ds Max, it's being applied…
