Lighting a scene with an environment map

- [Instructor] For testing materials on objects, also known as look development. We actually need to have some kind of scene lighting, so that we don't have to fuss with setting up a whole bunch of lights. We can just drop in an Environment Map to provide illumination and reflections. To do that, we'll go into the rendering menu and choose environment. In the environment and effects window, in the common parameters rollout, we can set a flat color for the background or we can assign an Environment Map. Although this section is labeled background, that is not the whole story. The background not only shows up as a backdrop in renderings, but it also illuminates the scene. By assigning a high dynamic range panorama to the Environment Map slot, we can instantly create realistic lighting.
