Linking objects in a transform hierarchy
- [Instructor] Groups are great for organizing collections of objects into a static unit. In other words, something that doesn't have any moving parts. But if you need an articulated system, then you'll want to organize your objects into a transformed hierarchy or a system of parent, child links and that's what we want in the case of the toy drone. I want to be able to animate the drone flying around and also animate the propellers separately and the best way to do that is with linking. And to make animation easier, I can create a very simple rig consisting of an invisible helper or dummy object that will allow me to manipulate the entire collection in the hierarchy without selecting any one of the individual parts and that will give me the option, actually, to swap out the parts later if I want to.
