- [Instructor] Having already seen how we can use the various ID options available in V-Ray Next to create semi-automated ID mattes. What we want to take a look at in this next exercise is the Multimatte option, which in many ways is just a continuation of the ID work that we have already done in that this element also makes use of both material and object ID settings, for matte creation. Unlike the other ID passes though, this particular render element only uses three colors in the matte, these being pure red, pure green and pure blue, why would we want to use a matte creation tool that is limited to just three colors you may ask? Well, because when using the Multimatte element in a compositing application, the red, green and blue channels of the image itself can be directly used as the matte, thereby eliminating the step of having to select the color to be used.
