- [Aaron] In this course we've explored 3ds Max's advanced material techniques, but it's a deep subject. We didn't get to cover every advanced tool available. However, that's a good problem to have. I focused on physically-based rendering because that's really the way forward. The old-school renderers, such as the 3ds Max Scanline Renderer are based on a bogus shading model that requires a lot of effort to get plausible looking results. Physically-based rendering is easy by comparison. And different PBR renderers are all trying to do the same thing, simulate the propagation of light, by modeling real-world phenomena. As a result, the 3ds Max physical material will render similarly in PBR renderers such as Art, Arnold, and V-Ray. What you learned in this course should apply to any PBR renderer. To expand your knowledge of advanced materials, check out our other courses. You'll find several to compliment this one, such as my own courses, 3ds Max: Advanced Lighting and 3ds Max: Rendering…
