- [Instructor] To reduce the level of detail of a polygon mesh object, 3ds Max offers the MultiRes modifier. I want to knock the level of detail of this tree object down so that I can instance it many times into this scene. Currently it's about 35,000 polygons. And if I press the seven key on the keyboard we can see the statistics, 34,501 polygons. And that corresponds to about 70,000 triangles. Let's add the MultiRes modifier. I'll select the tree and in the modify panel, in the modifier list, scroll down and all MultiRes. The MultiRes modifier consists of two parts, the generation parameters and the resolution parameters. The generation parameters correspond to a pre-process. We need to actually analyze the mesh first before we can reduce its resolution or level of detail using these parameters here.
