Projecting splines onto surfaces with ShapeMerge

- [Instructor] The ShapeMerge compound object projects spline curves onto a polygon mesh surface to create new polygon edges. In this simple example, we'll project the splines of a text object onto a plane and then extrude the resulting polygons out from the plane. Let's investigate what we have here in the scene. I'll select the spline object. Go to the Modify panel. We'll see I have converted it to an editable spline. I did that to help with interactive performance, but it's not strictly necessary. And any shape object will work, such as a text primitive or a circle primitive, but in this case, I've converted to editable spline. ShapeMerge projects the spline onto the mesh and the spline's local negative z-axis, so before we make that projection, let's check in on the orientation of the spline object's pivot point. With the spline still selected, let's go to the move tool and change the reference coordinate system over…
