Referencing scenes with Xref objects
- [Instructor] One of the best practices in 3D graphics or really any computer-based project is Versioning. That simply means saving out lots of Versions of your scene or project. And in my case I save out a new version of my 3ds max scene approximately every 10 to 30 minutes. So it's very easy for me to end up with a 100 versions of the same model. And that might seem excessive but it's not because it gives me the ability to go back to an earlier version in case something goes wrong. So it's basically an insurance policy. So if you've got lots of versions of something, you're going to use up disk space more quickly. But there is a way around this, especially for complex scenes where you've got lots of objects in there. You can load those objects or assets in as External References or Xrefs. And you're only making a link to the external asset. You're not encapsulating that asset within the current scene and therefore when you save a new version of the current scene, its file size is…
