- [Instructor] Before beginning in Arnold, I'd like to change a few key preferences in 3ds Max, and also streamline the interface to make it easier for teaching and production. To begin, I'll go into the Customize menu, and choose Preferences. In the Preference Settings dialogue in the General tab, let's increase the Scene Undo levels to at least 100, and press Enter. Then go over to the Files tab, and enable the switch to Convert local file paths to Relative. That will simply display dependent file paths relative to the current project. Click OK. Next we want to set up the default conditions for new objects and materials. Go into the Customize menu once again, and choose Custom Defaults Switcher. Over on the left of this dialogue, in initial settings for tool options, change that over to Max.ART. With this setting, objects are not going to inherit the display properties of their enclosing layer, and the Material…
