Smoothing polygon edges
- [Presenter] In this chapter, we're going to look at shading and materials, or determining the surface properties of objects. Before we begin working on materials proper, there's a modeling task that we need to look at. That has to do with the smoothing of polygon edges. In the toy drone model, if we get in close with Control + Alt and middle mouse, I've added a dome to the model. If you look closely, it's got some strange black shading on it. Let's isolate that object and hide everything else, so that we can investigate. Select the dome, and, at the bottom of the screen, there's a button labeled Isolate Selection. Click that button, and all of the other objects are temporarily hidden. Then, we can navigate around with middle mouse, and alt + middle mouse, and investigate. As we tumble, or orbit around, we still see this bizarre black shading on here. This has to do with the smoothing of polygon edges. We've got a polygonal structure here, and I've temporarily hidden the edged faces.…
