Updating the MAXtoA plugin

- [Instructor] 3ds Max is currently on a quarterly update schedule meaning we get a major release every year and a point release or an update approximately every three months but Arnold is a plug-in that runs inside of 3ds Max and that plug-in is updated much more frequently and, frankly, much more randomly. You might see six or 10 Arnold updates in a year. It gets updated every few weeks and any given random update may be simply a bug fix or it may be a major feature update that gives you capabilities that you never had before and so it's important to keep Arnold updated. You want to be on top of this. Thankfully, the 3ds Max developers have made it very easy for us to know whether or not the Arnold plug-in is up-to-date. All we have to do is look at it in the Render Setup dialog. So open up Render Setup from the main toolbar and then set the Renderer over to Arnold then go to the Arnold Renderer tab and at the very top you'll see the currently installed version and if there were a new version available you would see a notice there and a link to click. Well, my version is currently up-to-date but let me show you where you can update manually if you need to. I'll minimize 3ds Max and in my browser I'm looking at the arnoldrenderer.com website and from here you want to go to the button labeled Arnold. On the next page you'll see some links and there's a link for downloads. Click on that and here's the page from which you can download the most recent plug-in for your host application and we see Arnold for 3ds Max and the current version is the same one that I have installed. If, for some reason, you need to downgrade or install an older version, maybe you're using a cloud-based render farm and they only have certain versions installed, well if you scroll down to the very bottom of this page you'll see Download Archive and that's where you can go to find older versions of the plug-ins. Once you've downloaded the new Arnold plug-in you can go ahead and install that but I do recommend uninstalling any existing version first and you simply do that through the standard method which is the Windows Settings app. That's how to keep the Arnold 3ds Max plug-in, MaxtoA, up-to-date.
