Using the Alembic format

We can also export out of a 3D program using alembic, which is an open source file format. I've got Maya open here, and I'm going to save out to an alembic cache, and load that into RealFlow. Note that Maya has a RealFlow shelf, and a RealFlow render kit shelf. We don't actually even need those to do the export process because Maya supports alembic directly. The same goes for 3ds Max. We can just use the standard export command there. One thing to keep in mind with Maya is that your scene needs to be built at 1/100th scale in order to be imported at the correct scale within RealFlow. It actually doesn't matter what you do in the Maya preferences. You could set that to kilometer or millimeter, whatever you want. It doesn't matter. All that matters is the actual scale of the objects is 1/100th. This is because Maya deep down under the hood sort of thinks that a unit is a centimeter, and of course RealFlow thinks that a unit is a meter. To compensate for this scale discrepancy, build…
