Using the Spring controller - 3ds Max Tutorial
From the course: Animating in 3ds Max: Constraints, Controllers, and Wire Parameters
Using the Spring controller
[Narrator] - Many times when animating in Max, we will want to create a specific look for an automated reaction, and one of the controllers capable of helping us out in some instances, would be the spring controller. In our stancing then, we have two pieces of end cap geometry that have been linked to a couple of dummy objects, that in turn themselves if I just select our spring here, have been set up as the bind objects that control the springs end points. Meaning, if I grab the bottom dummy here, I can move the whole assembly or I can grab the top one in order to drive the compression and expansion of the spring itself. What I have also done here is add some rudimentary animation to the bottom dummy so that when I hit the play button our assembly runs through some basic up and down motion, that is then had out of range curves applied in order to run as a constant loop for the duration of the timeline. What we want though is to have our spring object automatically react to the motion…
