- [Instructor] Although we made a start mapping engine in the previous exercise, we still need to understand how the controls that we have actually work in order for us to be able to make good choices when it comes time to create our lighting solutions. The first thing we will do, then, is switch our resolution preset from the default of high to the very low offering, which, if we render, now takes noticeably less time to complete, immediately telling us that the lower the resolution settings on the Irradiance map, the faster the render time will be, although that does of course also translate into a drop in GI quality as well. In the UI controls, we can see that when using this particular preset, we are actually working with an adaptive Irradiance map resolution sample range of min minus four, and max minus three, negative numbers meaning that the Irradiance map will actually have a lower resolution than the finished render itself.
