- [Instructor] For many newer users, the purpose of the HDRI map in V-Ray for 3DS Max could seem to be pretty much self-explanatory. The problem, though, is that not everything that seems obvious is necessarily so, with the V-Ray HDRI node being a perfect example of this, although you will already have seen the most obvious use case scenario here if you have worked through Chapter Two of the course, because there, using this very same scene, we added a HDRI map to a V-Ray dome light in order to add some extra realism to our lighting scheme, using the intensity multiplier on the dome light to get the correct level of illumination in the scene. Let's jump into the material editor, though, and this time show how we can also control the lighting to some extent by means of the HDRI node itself. aren't already visible let's double-click to bring them up, and with an IPR session in play, crank up the overall multiplier on the HDRI to a value of 12.
